2 Samuel: Looking for the True King

David is one of the most important figures in world history. Cultures worldwide have been touched by his story. From children’s story books to Michelango’s David, he is remembered by people of many backgrounds over 3,000 years after he lived. This is because his story in 2 Samuel is captivating. Yet, his story illuminates the most important story in world history – the story of Jesus Christ, the son of David. As we hear of David’s remarkable reign, we will see the purpose of God in this world. We will understand what Jesus meant when he announced, ‘The time is fulfilled, the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent and believe the good news’ (Mark 1:15). We will know more deeply what it means to pray, ‘Your Kingdom come, your will be done.’ (Matthew 6:10)
